Forum: classic_tv Subject: Re: 1960s UK series

Since you with the 1950s list, a lot of these are mini-series and a lot are series produced with the intent of being exported to the US. I was told that although the pre-1963 episodes are public domain in the UK, they are still copyrighted in the US (which makes no sense to me).

Note: Some of these series (such as "The Jazz Age") were originally produced on colour video tape, but today only exist as B&W telerecordings. Additionally, during the late-1960s/early-1970s there were a thing called "All-Star Comedy Carnival", which featured sketches spun-off from sitcoms and featuring the cast of those sitcoms. Most of these segments are believed to be lost.

The list excludes 1950s series that also aired in the 1960s (see previous list), and to be on this list, a series must have aired at least 2 episodes in the 1960s (hence, "Up Pompeii" is not on the list...)

Of these series I've seen "Steptoe and Son" (I like it, but it can be irritating), "Pardon the Expression" (good sitcom, very likeable characters), "The Clangers" (good children's series), "Camberwick Green" (very charming children's series), "Mary, Mungo and Midge" (wonderfully dated kids show), "Father, Dear Father" (good sitcom), "Curry & Chips" (interestingly dated sitcom with lots of racial references...will offend many). I'll be watching "The Strange World of Gurney Slade" and "Two in Clover" within the next few weeks. I've also heard 1962's "Two of a Kind" (which I've seen) is complete in the archives.
